Just found the forum tonight, excellent info. I spent about an hour just reading old posts in the aggressive forum getting ideas. Currently have a 160 fish only with live rock.
Main reason I got into the hobby was because I saw a clown trigger and thought it was the coolest thing in the world. The goal of this tank was to eventually be able to enjoy the beauty of this fish stocking him with tank mates that he would get along with.
Currently in the tank I have a large maroon gold striped clown, medium/large porpupine puffer, large stars and stripes puffer and an adult emperor angel fish.
I really didn't want a stars and stripes puff but the fish had been sitting at the store for months and was one of the sharpest looking puffers I had ever seen. The detail on this fish is simply amazing and his tank habits make him one of my favorite fish in the tank.
Anyway getting back to why I am posting. I am trying to figure out what else to add. I wanted a big black lion but don't know how well that will go over with the stars and stripes since this guy just keeps growing as well as from what I have read the clown trigger might kill him.
I like the way the nigers look, but I would want a big one so that one is likely out. I love the queen and undulated, but they will likely kill everything and get too big too fast.
I saw someone post that a Sargassum trigger is a good option, but half the pics I see of them I really dont like it, the other half I see, it looks pretty cool. I would have to see the actual fish live before buying it so that probably takes that one out.
Any other decent trigger options? Any other fish that I am missing? I dont want anymore angels and the only wrasse I like is the Banana Wrase, but that is likely another one I would have to see live before buying since I see different pics that look totally different.
I know I want to do a clown trigger last so let me know your ideas of what to add before hand.

The thing with Sargassum triggers is that they get more colorful as they grow. So if you want a really colorful one, you'd need to get an adult 6+ inches which is very hard to find. Same with the banana wrasse. Most wrasses in general are pretty dull when young.
As to what to add.... A Blue Throat trigger is nice or if you don't mind spending a lot, a male Crosshatch trigger is beautiful. Is your tank 72" in length? How about a one spot foxface? Or an Australian Harlequin Tusk? Beautiful fish!

You could get a Snowflake Eel. A bottom fish like that will cause less territorial issues. As for other Trigs, theres the Goldenheart, Huma/Picasso and Pinktail. I dunno how happy a tusk or foxface would be in such a highly aggressive tank. As it is I worry about how the Clown will do.

The tank size is actually a 156, not a 160, but the width is only 5ft, not 6 ft. Is that a problem?

Most Lion experts will say not to have a Lion with Puffers, Angels or Triggers, which is why I don't have a Lion even though I would love to. Sunset Wrasse would be a good choice, I have one and am a huge fan....Sargassum Trigger (I also have) are great community Triggers and would do well in your tank though I would prefer to have him added earlier. I must be honest, I think a Male Blue is just as pretty if not more, and far less money, I was drawn to the rareness of the Sargassum. They have virtually identical tempermants and adult size.

not saying yall are wrong and i made have just had a one of a kind fish, but i had a 6 inch clown trigger with a 8 inch lion for a year and a half. Sadly i no longer have them as Hurricane Ike wiped them all out.
Also this does not mean go out and buy one this is just simply my experience.

Generally lions are not to be put with aggressive triggers, large angels and most puffers, this is all based on the individual fish, is your puffer nippy? Lions fins are prone to being nipped at by the above fish, and they are usually not able to defend themselves against fast aggressive fish. That being said I have a friend who kept a lion with a 10" clown trigger, and the lion used to chase the trigger at feeding time, but this is the exception rather that the rule, and an adult clown trigger needs a lot more room than a 160. I wold probably not add a lion to your tank with the current residents. A blue jaw trigger or an Aussie tusk would make a good choice, just be careful of bioload as everything you have will get very large, your puffer will be the size of a football in no time.
