El G...I was really impressed tonight. She might be an "unknown", but she's got what it takes, and I think she hit home with a lot of different demographics.

I missed the end of her speech but I did catch a lot of it . I was very impressed by the way she addressed things .

I think Thompson and Rudy did great. I think Palin did fine but I don't see where she did as great as all the pendents said. When BSNBC reporters start talking her up I get the feeling they are just trying to raise expectations for her.

who are you and what have you done with the real El Guapo???
you started a political thread!!!
Ron Paul all the way!!!

my fave part was all the Obama bashing by Rudy...
although he did have valid points on him not leading anything...

I agree, but as long as you are a good speaker we all know a person can look and do great with a scripted speeches, been watching a similar act for over a year now. I will still wait for the first debate or townhall session she has or interview before I fully weigh in on her.
I could careless about the VP picks for the most part. That is like worrying who your back up quarterback is. No one cares.....you already know the back up isn't as good as the starter...that is why they are back up....

I would rather go with the experienced starter who has put together a great cast of supporting players and take a chance the back up might have to stand in at some point than to go with a rookie starter with a backup who might have a lot of experience but has also thrown a lot of interceptions over the years

Well...what has McCain led? That's what I was thinking when they were making those comparisons.
On another note, tonights RNC was much more interesting to watch than last nights...that was like pulling teeth.

Regardless of your personal opinion on which person/party is better suited to lead, what bothers me is that people choose not to vote (2 out of 17 at the time I wrote this...).
The political system of this country is certainly not perfect, but it allows us, as citizens, an opportunity to make decisions on who should lead. To not take advantage of that opportunity is, in my opinion, irresponsible. I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I struggle to understand why people choose not to cast a ballot. Granted, in some elections it seems to be a "lesser of the two evils" decision, but it's still a choice you are entitled to - and should - make.
I'd be willing to bet that a high percentage of the people that don't vote would be vocal about losing that privilege if, one day, they were no longer afforded that opportunity.
Just my two cents. Sorry for derailing the thread...

Mccain hasn't had a lead in the polls yet... they've been tied... I think Obama has an 8 point lead currently.
The convention... the best speech was given by Huckabee. I did not like Guiliani's. They were basically the same republican talking points... and it was all sarcasism and mocking... and no substance. Maybe that is just his style...
I can't recall enough from Romney's.... perhaps it was forgetable.
Palin... I think her speech was okay... however the style and sarcasism was very annoying... it just kept up with the theme of attacking Obama, instead of talking about the issues and the solutions to those issues... The fact that there was little mention of the economy... and all talk about drilling and terrorism... I believe 70% of people say their main concern is the economy... and I think they failed in responding.
They simply missed on a huge opportunity to connect emotionally with voters... they didn't tell the story of why people should vote for them... it was simply too much attack and divisive politics... and showed the mindset of the party in going into the election... People give themselves to others in different ways... and honor and sacrifice isn't just the characteristics of soilders... community organizers... also are in this group... so are firefighters, police officers... volunteers... they all give of themselves to make our communities better... don't forget the women's movement, civil rights, unions... etc... all done by community organizers.

Regardless of your opinion of the poll ( I don't hold to them much) however you statement is inaccurate. Likewise, you should really start being a bit more specific. There are what 4 or 5 major polling organizations, so saying obama has an 8 point lead currently is very vague.

No, its a good point... I volunteered to register people to vote, and in my canvassing of neighborhoods.. I would approach people to register, and they would say they're not going to vote... or they're going to put who they want in anyway...
I thought well maybe they think they can't because they have felonies...but told them that in Ohio, as long as you are not incarcerated, you can vote... they still declined...
Elections matter, people need to participate... people died and sacrificed for all americans to vote... we also are the symbol of democracy in the world... we take our rights for granted, even today people are being killed for trying to vote..
I like Diddy's slogan... vote or die.

in the top polls he is ahead USA today, Gallup, I foget the others Gallup daily tracking McCain Obama Margin
See also:
% % McCain Obama
American Research Group 8/30 - 9/1 - 43 - 49 - 6
USA Today/Gallup 8/30-31 - 43 - 50 - 7
CBS News 8/29-31 - 40 - 48 - 8
CNN/Opinion Research 8/29-31 - 48 - 49 - 1
Diageo/Hotline 8/29-31 - 39 - 48 - 9
Week prior average was 3pt lead.
This is difficult to read, tried adjusting... first #'s are dates...#'s beginning with 4's (43) are McCain, 2nd set of #'s are Obama... and 3rd set is the diff.
