Hey everyone its GNorman- Eric. I started this thread because I am currently in Ohio visiting my sister for a week before I leave for my Mission for 2 years. We have been thinking of things to do and one idea was to go to the Aquarium in Kentucky. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this aquarium. Is it nice? Is there a lot to see? Can you spend a full day there? We are about 2 hours away so it would be a drive if we did decide to go there. Any replys on this aquarium would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

funny you posted this! I have been debating about going down this weekend, seeing as how ive never been there. Its about a 3-3.5 hour drive for me, but i have nothing going on this weekend. So if anyone knows anything informative do tell! All I know is the entrance fee like 17-18 bucks/ person.

The aquarium itself is not a full day. Maybe 90 minutes to tour the whole complex, 2 hours if you take your time.

you can try looking it up on yelp.com... you can read other peoples ratings of the aquarium if they have it on that site.

An idea but I don't know where you are coming from, but if you are in Ohio chances are you are coming from the North. If you are into planes and more specifically military planes try this...and you can do this in any order. Visit the Aquarium which as stated is 90 minutes...but also visit Wright Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. The museum is free to enter and that will be another 2 or 3 hours. There is a lot of history on the history of planes since the Wright Brothers invented the plane in the Dayton area. They just flew it for the first time in one of the Carolinas. There is also some space craft displays and history. The only cost is if you want to see any of the Imax films. It is a nice aeronautical museum.
If you are in Cincinnati for dinner and want to treat yourself to a good or great dinner before your mission try these.
Good dinner = Montgomery Inn, 3 locations $20 a plate dinner some of the best pork ribs you will ever have. If at the Aquarium, they have a riverfront property 7 minutes from the Aquarium.
Great dinner = try a Jeff Rubys steak house, 6 locations in Cincinati under different names. Each location has a different theme, it will be $40 per person before drinks. They have a restaurant called Tropicana that is on the same property as the Aquarium. In my humble opinion these Ruby properties put Ruth Chris Steak houses to shame.
Good luck with the mission,
Chris

I haven't looked at yelp but I went to the Monterey Aquarium a lot when I grew up in the Bay Area. Since you are from San Jose don't even think the Newport Aquarium is anything close to Monterey. I have been to Newport about 6 times with my toddler since we have a yearly pass. The coolest thing they have is a bridge that you walk over with a fresh water croc (or are they alligators) with about 6 gators of 4' in lengths.
I am trying to be honest, I would not make that drive just for the aquarium. However as stated above the plane museum is cool, there is also a nice Underground Railroad Museum next to the Reds ball park, but I have not had a chance to visit that yet.
I guess what I am saying if there are other things that you want to see in the Nati then come, but don't drive down just to go to the aquarium.
Also in case you don't know Cincinnati, the city rests on the Ohio river which is the state border of KY and OH. This Aquarium and Tropicana complex are directly across the river from downtown Cincinnati, so it is maybe a 5 minute drive from the riverfront downtown to the riverfront of Newport, KY.

I spent early grade school K to 3rd just south of you in Foster City and then the next 9 years across the Bay in Danville which is in between Walnut Creek and Dublin. I graduated from Monte Vista in '92.

I love going to the aquarium! Although, I wish they had a nicer reef exhibit.
The Newport Aquarium lies right next to a complex of restaurants and other attractions, including a bar and a movie theater. Your could easily spend an entire afternoon there. Really nice place. However , if I were you I'd wait until spring/summer as a lot of the festivities are outdoors.
Do a google for Newport on the Levee, Newport Kentucky for all of the attractions.

hey thanks everyone for your replys. i realy appreciate it. my sister said dayton is a ways from where the aquarium is. were in columbus right now next to Ohio State. considering how long we would be at the aquarium and the places to eat around it ( they are too expensive since my sister and her husband are going throught the after stages of med school ) i think we we are going to stay in coulumbus and visit the zoo here. and if we do decide to go out and do something we might go to Kirkland Ohio to visit some church history sights.
again, thanks everyone for your replys.
