thanks for the info, laura, and welcome to the boards!

i was wondering about lettuce nudis when i read that all (real) nudibranchs eat tissue and are carnivores, so it makes sense that they arent really nudis. i also didnt know that the males could lay eggs. very cool.

Yes..Welcome. So are the 'carnivores' detrius eaters or do they 'eat' corals and are not really reef safe? Are slugs hardier than nudi's?

Alas, I kow more about slugs! I dont know what kind of tissue the nudis eat. there isnt a wole lot of info on types of algea the slugs eat either. Some say macros, some say micros. Mine seem very happy eating several types. Here is a great article describing both solar powered fab creatures. It may discuss nudi diet, but when my son did his science article on this,we kind of skipped over the nudi part.

because they are specialized eaters, some are coral safe and some arent. some eat sponges, montis, sea pens, leathers, dead fish, etc. it depends on what type it is.

MEAT EATERS!! eat soft corals! It says that they consume the whole algal cell, intact! Amazing that these guys utilize photosynthesis It says that they can live for 9 months without eating, just by utilizing their last algea meal!
