No petroleum products on O rings that will make it worse. Get some silicone grease in any plumbing department at any hardware or home improvement store. It's super cheap. There are chemicals in vaseline that can cause O rings and rubber seals to break down. Getting a new one works too.
p.s. don't use it on condoms either. Just a little FYI.

So i should be able to get another o-ring the right size at the hardware store too, correct?
ya meowz its the one up and out of the water! I got the thing set just where i want it, so it kinda suks its starting to break down! Im gonna have to find the sweet spot again
