Maybe his brother would squander the extra $100 you suggest. Remember, Africa is a poverty stricken place, with lots of AIDS and alcoholism, and it's completely corrupt. I'm sure he knows his brother better than any of us do.
Okay, example time. My dad works on my Grandfathers oil lease, for $15 an hour. His older brother, my uncle, OWNS the family business. Cable television systems, started by my grandfather in the early 70's (banked on it too). My dad owned a partnership ($520K worth) and was forced to sell it when my parents divorced. He blew through $260,000 in a matter of about 5 years. He sold the home I grew up in that he never paid homeowners insurance on, that was another $160K he blew through in no time. He now lives in a crappy trailer and drives a Dodge Ram Charger he bought in 1986 that has over 500k miles on it, while my uncle is raking in the dough, playing his grand piano, in his 4 bedroom house, with his 8 vehicles and his wife who takes monthly trips to Europe to see art exhibits.
Is my uncle supposed to keep forking over cash to my dad to "help him out"? He dug his own hole. He created his own debt. You don't just throw a dog a bone if the dog doesn't earn it. That's called a hand-out. And I thought you folks were complaining about Obama's "Socialist" agenda. Now it's not good enough that he's not giving out handouts.
Family I understand. But like I said, I don't expect my brother to fork over some cash out of pity or guilt or any other reason to help me out when I'm in a financial bind. He doesn't owe me squat. I've made the choices I've made and I'll deal with them.
And improving public services costs tax money. Less taxes equals crappy government services. I guess this is lumped into the whole "Socialist" thing though. People helping people. Indirectly, but it's people helping people. We are a spoiled nation. We need to detach ourselves from the dollar bill for a while and readjust our perspectives of what made this land the place that it is. Perhaps we'll gain a new appreciation for what our forefathers had to do in order to get us to where we are.
Of course not. Pontius's argument is that Obama was asked what his favorite scripture was. To which Obama replied.
Matt 25:45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
Then used this as a spring board to say we need to "help" people more, and by help imo he meant more social services.
In Pontius's mind he sees this as hypocrisy, seeing how his own brother pays less than a dollar a day for a 6 x 9 foot shanty. While Obama a multi-millionaire lives where ever he lives. Obama is not poor. Yet has met the man and did not help him get out of his current situation, by handing him $$.
Personally I don't really care, I wouldn't pay to help a half "brother" a product of father's philandering after he abandoned my family. I also feel like Obama is being consistant, b/c he feels like the government is responsible not the individual or the family...
