thanks ive put alot of work into this tank lol
When I get back in October, I may be asking you some questions when I order my tank. I like your setup and want to do something similar. Again, outstanding job!

hey murph i have a very similar thing half installed on my 150g, and i was planning on the same pump to push it, a reeflo Dart , but i was under the impression that these are 1" in and 1 " out, that isnt the case, or are their different versions?
if there was a way to turn off the OM, do you think there would be much difference with what you have now and constant flow? i wasnt planning on adding an OM, because i have seen contradicting arguments on both sides.

they come with a 2" inlet and a 1.5" outlet u can downsize but u shouldnt since these are flow pumps the more u stuff in the better it will do....
u could run it without the OM but i really like the variable water movement it creates lots of irradic movement which sps really need IMO

Sorry I had visitors over the weekend and never got time to check email or the forum :-( Thanks slugg3r, 1knight164, and murph145 for stepping in to try & help answer BelleNavis's questions.
I think the only ? that never got answered was about the overflows and the return. Typically, you will want both overflows to drain to your sump/fuge and then you will have one return. The return goes behind the tank and then over the top.
For varying flows. You could put a SCWD or OM on the return to alternate the current and then pipe from the SCWD or OM goes over the top of the tank.

deffinately recommend
I couldn't agree more. My 4 way is great!
However, for a 40 gallon tank a SCWD should be fine since it can handle around 1200 gph if I remember correctly.
It's also easier to plumb with fexible tubing and good hose clamps.
I went with the 4 way to push 4800 gph through my closed loop.

tree if u want to add more flow ur guna wanna seperate ur closed loop from ur sump return they are two diffrent things with two different intentions and purposes... a sump will not flow as much as u want to power a SCWD or an OM unit they are made for FLOW applications...
my closed loop is totally seperate from my sump... my sump has its own return pump which does 1200gh if i put an OM on it and a bigger pump my overflow box wouldnt keep up with it and it woudlnt work....
u could put an alternating current devise on your sump return like a SCWD or a sea swirl and u could get random flow from your sump return
just know that the two applications are different are intended for different uses
