Ocean Sand ?'s

I'm going to Florida next weekend, and I was wondering if there is anything wrong with bringing home some sand from the ocean? I still have crushed coral in my tank that I want to replace. I'm moving the tank to my new house a couple days after I return so it would be a great time to replace the sand if it is ok to do this.

I've heard the experienced guys on here say only from deep water. The sand on the beach acts as natures skimmer and collects all the pollutants. Make sure you pick up sand from deep water.(IE:eek:n a scuba trip)

And above all make sure it is legal...in many areas it may not be....there have been a lot of posts on collecting regulations in Florida, so a search might be helpful.

I have sand collected from an aquacultured site in about 40 feet of water and it has particles ranging in size from <1mm to several cm, although most are <3mm. If I were to do it over I would probably use some type of fine, dry sand. It also is not always white, some of mine also has a grayish tint and the larger pieces tend to grow coralline thereby distracting from the white color.

It is very illegal!!
Matter a fact they patrol specifically for that because the beaches in our area are eroding so quickly. big fines!
