ocean sand to tank sand

Recently i got some sand from the oregon coast. i would like to put it in my fish aquarium. Is it a good idea. It is dry and is clean of all debris.

Alot of people say no. Believe it could contain polution "oil" if you buy dead sand it's only 20 bucks a 20# bag or less or southdown highly recomended 6 bucks 50# thats what i used on bottom argonite on top seed with a little live suggested best. But it is youre tank so youre choice i would probaly boil first. I do things against recomandations i feel it's a science project but i do'nt have all sorts of exspensive corals. <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

I use it in my refugiums and have for almost a year now with no ill effects but then maybe I'm lucky I have even found good pieces of rock washed in to the beach.
