Oceana - sun coral question

This coral really isn't for a beginner, they are hard to keep up. Mine is doing good, but i might get rid of it once i start getting SPS corals ect. I don't think thoes corals can handle the bad water quality that is caused by feeding the sun.

Sorry it took so long. For some reason I didn't get the email about wanting updated pictures.
Here are some pictures I took of it yesterday and today. Please tell me if it looks any better. Give any suggestions you have
I am hopeful.
I've been feeding it twice a week (sometimes more). I usually take it out of the tank and put it in a bowl and feed it. Today I left it in the tank and fed it with a cup over it. It just makes the crabs go nuts and try to get to it so I usually feed it in a bowl out of the tank.
I am thinking of getting something that hangs inside the tank so I can seperate it from everything while it eats . :notsure:
I feed cyclopeeze and mysis

Id keep it on the bottom and feed with the cup over it. Taking it in and out every day seems alot more stress and potential damage than the hermits. My hermits and shrimp are all over my sun after its feeding. It annoys me and i like knockin them off but i havent seen any damage from them. As soon as they leave the sun, he looks like this in 5 minutes

p.s.- try soaking some selcon or zoecon in the food, mine seem to love it. Mine like krill as well, may wanna try that. Your polyps look nice and full when extended so hopefully with some tlc it will recover and spread.

Yeah the polyps look good when it is open. Look much better than they did when I first got it. Now around the polyps looks more like a rock....getting coraline coloration. When I first got it it was so white looking (see above in the first pictures). So I am hoping it gets better.
I do have Kent's ZOE I have not soaked the food in that as I really didnt' think about it. I usually only do that when I feed the fish. I will do that from now own.
I like to feed in the cup because I can make sure I get each polyp fed a few times that way. It is harder to do it in the tank. I guess I should try though, I can see how it can be harsh for it.
Thanks for the advice....
Anyone else have any more suggestions? Do you guys think it looks better or the same?

you can read my other sun coral threads under sufunk. I drilled some small holes in the sides of the cup. That way i can use a little syringe(from a joes juice box) to shoot the food in from any side. The tip fits in the hole and i can get to any angle pretty much, that way i can be sure each polyp is getting hit with food.

Most will tell you they need low lighting. Ive read alot of places though, including some prominent members here, that it doesnt matter. No light, pc's, mh's,high, low, no matter what it wont affect the sun. It only needs food. MIne is directly under my lights, granted only pcs but it opened right up when i got it and put some food in the tank and has opened like the pic every single day that ive had it.
Now stop stallin and design my damn new tank for me!!!!!!

Yeah Tim- Oceana says lighting does not matter. The reason they are in caves in the wild is because algae doesn't grow in caves. Algae needs light. Since they are so slow feeders and are usually in low flow and in a cave they don't grow algae, if they were in light in the wild they would grow algae. I think I said that right

Someone correct me if that is wrong

Hi I have a new tank that I was left with from an Ex and the one thing I have been able to take care of is my yellow sun corals I dont know how to post pics but wish I did these corals in my tanks are amazing and all I do is feed them brine shrimp with a baster they really are not hard at all so for someone to say they shouldnt be in a tank with someone who is first starting is wrong!

Stacey I don't nessasary think that it is the person taking care of the tank. But some corals need to be in an established tank to do well. In your case you where new but got a tank already running.
Btw I wouldn't feed anything brine, very low in nutrient valve. Try mysis much better!
phishface, yes triggers will eat corals, at the very least it would be iffy at best.
