Just mixed up my water with Oceanic and I got a pH of 8.0. Is that normal? How long should it sit? Does it have to be at exact salinity for accurate reading of pH? Does it have to aerated or just mixed with a PHead?

i wouldnt test it until it is at exact salinity, and the water should not just sit there, it needs aeration/movement

I'm all for a salt mix disolving fast but I don't think thats what makes a good salt mix. I make my water and add the salt as the drum rises. I then let it mix for a week or more. Most of the time its been mixing for a month or more before I use it. With that said, I'd let it mix for at least a few days before using.

I have 10 gal mixing 24/7....with a two powerheads and a heater...I check the PH of the water prior to use....normally the PH is right on 8.0 and seldom needs adjustment. I wouldn't worry about the PH until you are ready to use it......

Well I got it to the desired salinity and aerated it for 4 hrs. pH is perfect. Just needed some more time. Thanks for the info.

It's been mixing for two days now with a PH and a heater. I just didn't add enough salt, cause I was waiting for my refracto to come in today, and I wanted to see what the difference was between the refracto and the hydrometer.
