i have a mated pair of Ocellaris Clownfish that live in my green toadstool leather. i want to get them a anemone which do you think is best for this situation... send me pics of your Ocellaris Clownfish and anemone common name.

longtentacle anemone is a good choice. also be aware that you might see marks showing up on your clowns if given a new anemone. clowns are not immune to stings, the anemones just stop stinging them because the clowns grow a coating on the outside that resembles that of the anemone and the anemone thinks they are part of it. it takes a little while for them to be recognized as part of the anemone.

ive always wondered, what is it about the clown that makes it the only fish that can absorb this"coating"?

it's like a parrot's attachment to sunflower seeds. It's a euphoric high for the clowns once they adapt to it.

diablo...if I were you I would not bother with an anemone. For one...there is no guarantee that your clowns will even make the switch to the anem from the toadstool. They may not even want anything to do with it. Another is that your anem will most likely harm/sting your corals. Third is that anems are harder to take care of than corals. It looks like your clowns are enjoying that toadstool...I would just leave them the way they are!! :happyfish
Just my .02¢ :)

But if you are insistant on getting one, I would go with either carpet or BTA for Ocellaris.

That being said, my clowns are tank raised, as I imagine a lot on this site are. I am definitely planning on getting my little guys some kind of anenome...will they be ok with it? I mean, being tank raised and all, will they know what to do with it?

My true perks are tank raised. Spent some time in a tank without anenome and had no problem...came home with me and within 2 days hosted a green bubble tip. Now, they are doing the two level homestead, during the day, one hangs on with the bubble tip, the other stays close in the green star polyps on the overhang just above. They sleep together in the GBT...
Clowns don't NEED an anenome, some use them, some don't. Some clown species seem to like one type of anemone over others..some host right away, some never do..Wild ones tend to host quicker than tank raised (if, in fact they ever do..)
It's a mixed bag of situations, without a diffinative answer! Best thing to do, read the stickys at the beginning of this forum, and roll the dice...
good luck,
Bill
