Octopus 200 Mod question

I got the NW-200 model Octopus skimmer for my 180 (bought used, included all plumbing, sump, etc) over the recirc model to save some money. Now that I'm getting ready to actually setup the tank and have a few things to consider. I bought this model knowing I'd have to do some work to get it in the sump, since the inside of the stand is just over 25" and the skimmer itself is 24" (with 3/4" cup clearance), so I'll either need to move some plumbing around or drop the stand flooring to actual floor level and extend the plumbing. The thing I realize now that I've got the skimmer out of the box is that I'll even have to take the tank off the stand (it's still sitting empty) to actually get the skimmer into the sump.
So, my question is, would there be a way to mod the skimmer to sit outside the sump? Again, it's not the recirc model, just the NW-200 in-sump model. Thanks all!

Alex, I can help you move the tank if you need. I don't know about modding it to be external, I guess anything is possible, could maybe make it work with some type of gate valve mod. I am free this weekend for awhile, I'm sure we could figure something out. Problem is with the riser tube(for adjusting the water level inside the skimmer), I think you(we) could extend the riser tube all the way up, then connect up the gate valve(you would use this to adjust the level instead of the tube). Let me know if you want me to help this weekend. Sat or Sun would be ok, I do have to install an ignition module in my buddy's 4-wheeler sometime, but other than that I'm free to help, if you like. Hopefully we can get something done this time.

That sounds good, thanks. I'm available either day, but Saturday might be better so I have Sunday in case I need to get a bunch of PVC to re-run some of the plumbing.

the easiest thing to do it move tha ank and pt the skimmer in.. but i dont think thats the best idea... i would go tot the local hardware store and pick up some plumping to convert the non recirc to a recirc.. that way it can sit outside the smump.. ( the outlet need to be h=igher than the sump so it can drain correctly) im thinking maybe 2 elbows and a peice of pipe.) all you are doing is making the inlet of the skmmer connected to the skinner body... then you wil need a hole w/

[hr]
so you can have inlet water from the tank to the skimmer..
you might hate yourself when the skimer need some kind of tinkering...

So the water would need to be fed from the tank? Not sure I follow....

not exactly from the tank.. it can be from anywhere in the system... (sump, fuge, main tank, as long as it's from the same colum of water)...
as is... you skimmer is taking water in directly from the pump...( water in is in the sump npt connected to anything) but if you recirc it .. the feed will be attached to the body.. ( both inlet and outlet of the pump will be connected to the body.. think of it as having a bucker of water.. then put a pump in it... the water will recirculate around and around... same water... but if you want new water.. you have to pour some in and take some out.. this is the extra hole.. since you already have the outlet from the skimmer ) when both ends are connected to the body.. where will the water that flow in/out the skimmer come from?? you will need a different "feed" ....
look at you skimmer .. then look at
here are some pic to show you the recic ... the top one w/valve is the feed...
