Octopus protein skimmer BH100F

I just purchased an octopus skimmer. Cannot get the siphon to work. I have tried closing..opening valve intake but the water doesn't fill the compartment that has the pump. Water level just reaches bootom of pump. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I just barely open the valve and start sucking on the tube, instead of hooking it up to the other clear tube where the silencer goes. then when it finally starts filling up (which it takes a while) then just close the valve off and it should start working. Just my .02

Thanks for your .02. Which direction is off for the valve intake? Do you have the pump on or off when your siphoning? The instructions that came with skimmer were terrible. Thanks

if you are looking at the skimmer turn the valve all the way to the left and that should be off( well it is on mine). I keep the pump running when I start the siphon. Also make sure you have atleast 8inches of water in the center chamber.
