Odd lunare wrasse behavior!

I like to feed my filefish by hand at the water's surface, and while doing that this morning, my lunare wrasse (who appeared to be bothered by the presence of my hand)spit a small stream of water at me! I swear he did this (he wasn't just splashing), but is this unheard of? It was a clearly visible stream of water that extended about 6-8 inches from his mouth with part of it ending up on the floor! Could I have been dreaming this?!? Please, someone tell me that this behavior in a lunare wrasse is not so unusual . . . I'd hate to have my wrasse ending up on the front page of the "Weekly World News" with the headline, "Possessed?...You bet your 'wrasse' it is!"
thanks . . . Sangy

Hey the same thing happened to me once with my porkupine. When i was moving i had to catch and place him in a pail. when i looked down into the pail to make sure he was ok he spit a stream of water at me. I guess he didn't approve!!! I laughed so hard!! :D :D :D :D

Yes Porks, Triggers and some larger Wrasses will spit water to get your attention. Actually what it is is a way that they in the wild sometimes will stun prey by doing this. I have seen fish on tv that come to the surface and knock bugs off things near the waters edge by doing that. My Porks will do this if I do not feed them fast enough and I have one Clown Trigger who every so often does it to. So not to worry but realize you are probably getting that wrasse jealous of your attention to the other fish.

I have a lunare wrasse and he has done the same this to me several times. He also splashes the top of the water at me too! This fish has become quite a pain the @#$. I really like it but it keeps biting the smaller fish in my tank. I've got rid of three clownfish, hippo tang, and now I either have to get rid of my potters angel or my wrasse!
