off topic-cloned fish

i know that tank raised fish are now becoming more available, but it is only a matter of time before cloned fish will be available to the hobbiest.
the question i am posing is if anyone would buy cloned fish, espeically if the prices and the product (fish) are resonable....
personally i think that cloned fish would be along the lines of tank raised. by purchasing them, there would be a far less impact on the reefs around the world and thus a positive point. the only downside would be supporting the cloning industry. but it is only a matter of time before cloned pets/fish will be for sale on the market.

I would deffinetly buy them. May be "Moraly" wrong but it would help out the oceans striping problem. I would not introduce clones into the ocean however. You might end up with Godzilla or something. But I think it would be cool for the hobbiest to enjoy!
Think about it, A tang that is immune to ICH! Imagine the possiblities..

tangs immune to ich... hmmm. also some interesting cross breeds would produce some amazing colorations...
but i agree about the introduction into the oceans would be a bad idea, a disaster waiting to happen.

Wouldn't a Yellow Tang look nice crossed with a Flame Angel? Think of the possiblities. Seriously though, I think I would stay away because every animal that has been cloned so far has had pretty serious health problems, haven't they?

The downside is you'd have fish that were a year old with cells that were the age of the cloned fishes, so effectively cutting the fishes life span as weel as encouraging some of the more detrimental trait like coral picking and aggressiveness! On a less serious note i once saw a hybrid of and Emporer angel and a Asfur angel, it was incredible it had like a lattice pattern of yellow stripes I would have paid anything for it but they just wouldn't sell it! Darn ;)

Odd topic.
HolaCanthus - I may not be understanding you here, but I see no way that anyone could actually identify 9 year old cells in an animal that is only 3 years old.
These cells may have resembled, or had the appearance or responed to things like a 9 year old cell would - but there ain't no way they were actually 9 years old.
This goes against logic and common sense.
Am I the only one that is scratching his head on this ?
Maybe this explains why I am tired in the morning, I got older cells in my body <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />
And oh YES - I am a clone <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />
The original broomer1 only does freshwater and lives in St. Louis.
The other broomers .. 2,3 and 4 worked in a circus as a fabulous triplet flaming juggling team ... but there was a freaky accident a few years ago .... and they did not make it.

No you are not.
But I wouldn't know a petri dish if it hit me in the face.
Anyway, I would prefer farm-raised to clones. Clones seem kinda 'fake' to me. Like I might as well buy the bubbling plastic fish aquarium from Walgreens or something.
But Wamp is on to something with Godzilla. <img src="graemlins//mischievous.gif" border="0" alt="[Mischievous]" />

tru conch it's a Townsends angel not Thompsons angel, and some hybrids show up with regulararity in the pet-fish trade!
Lol broomer5 thats pretty funny, but i agree in actual age the cells were not 9 yrs old, but were identified as being much older than other cells from different areas of the body! ;)

hey, if there were all cloned fish, then the mother of all the clones could have a weakness against certain ailments, which could wipe out everyones stock of that fish, genetic diversity is best.
