In response to your statement. "These cells may have resembled, or had the appearance or responed to things like a 9 year old cell would - but there ain't no way they were actually 9 years old." There are no cells in the body that last nine years to begin with, except for neurons. These last an organisms entire life. Most cells replicate, and each time they do this, segments on the end of their chromosomes called telomers shorten. What the original statement probably meant, was that the telomer length at the end of the chromosomes indicated that the organisms cells had been around for 9 years. This just means that the telomers started out smaller. In other words, cloned animals start out with a shortened life span.
