off topic-cloned fish

Hey boomer,
In response to your statement. "These cells may have resembled, or had the appearance or responed to things like a 9 year old cell would - but there ain't no way they were actually 9 years old." There are no cells in the body that last nine years to begin with, except for neurons. These last an organisms entire life. Most cells replicate, and each time they do this, segments on the end of their chromosomes called telomers shorten. What the original statement probably meant, was that the telomer length at the end of the chromosomes indicated that the organisms cells had been around for 9 years. This just means that the telomers started out smaller. In other words, cloned animals start out with a shortened life span.

Okay Infamous
That's cool !
Thanks for explaining that -
Would your lfs offer you a two for one price on a cloned fish - buy one get one free.
Probably not

Nah, your right...they wouldnt. The fish would probably cost more and die faster :( A better idea would probably be to selectively breed better strains of aqua-cultured fish. Like extra disease resistant tangs......or mandrins that could live on other things than coropods. Heh, it's a long shot, but heres to science! <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />

thanx holac... i knew it began with a "T" thompson/townsends, at least i was in the right ball park. if i remember corrcetly, a marine biologist from um did his whole docotorate on them, and hence they carry his last name. everyone thought he was crazy. at least thats the story i heard, but the "coconut telegraph" can be wrong most of the time.
