Offensive words...

I wish this topic would not get dragged into the mud field that is the discussion of politically correctness. I have no intention of debating what is right and wrong. I merely want to point out that people have the right to be offended just as others have the right to offend.
If you desire is to offend people, good luck with that.
If you don't care, good luck with that.
If you feel there is little difficulty in showing for 'class' or 'compassion' than by all means, save yourself a few words and leave out the extra words that you feel may offend.
I personally do not find myself to be easily offended, as I mentioned eariler I can think of only one word that might offend me and I highly doubt anyone here will ever use it or even be able to guess what it is. (This is not an invitation to guess what it is btw.)
I do, however, think that most people have a word or term that dispite their best efforts would truely offend them to the point of needing to react. I may be wrong but I base this assumption on myself. For the longest time I believe that nothing could offend me but I found my one sore spot and I imagine most people have one, whether they will admit to it or even know it yet.

Why is it okay to type "****" but not the dreaded "n" word?
By the way, the only reason the "n" word is so bad is because people give it that power.
If I can ignore being called a honky, then a black person should be able to handle being called a n****

I know your question was not directed to me but I started this thread so I feel that I have the justification to respond to it.
I have been saying that only an individual can determine what is or isn't offensive to them.
The question about what should or shouldn't be allowed to be said is not what this thread is about.
I am not speaking to anyone in particualr here, but I would appreciate it if people wishing to discuss specifics or PCness or something else would start their own thread to discuss such matters.

Is this info from some kind of survey or poll or is this just a opinion?

M.R...that's what the doctor called one of the possibilities with my son.
They did a chromosome test looking for genetic markers of autism and M.R. (mental retardation). It didn't dawn on me to be offended, or correct her terminology. So, I guess my son's neurologist is one person who uses that term nowadays.
A "mental disability", or "developmentally delayed" is what they call it when they still don't have a diagnosis. But mentally retarded really is a real name for a real disease.

Ok, once more. Please, if you wish to start a different discussion, I ask you nicely, please start it in a different thread. I personally do not wish for a thread I started to be turned into a discussion about how people SHOULD feel, what people SHOULD say, or what people SHOULD do. I started this thread to perhaps shed light on how certain unnecessary actions can easily be avoided to contribute to the overal happiness of the group.
This is not a topic debating whether people should be offended by a certain word or about how 'thickskinned' people should be, or how groups of people shouldn't care about a certain word because you don't care about a particular one. None of these are the topic of discussion here.

ok guys this topic is over because alot of words and phrases we do not allow have been used and typed in the posts. just because it was a topic on offensive words doesnt mean that they need to be used so after deleting several out of threads the topic has run as long as its going to go.
