Officially lost my will to live

I don't know if you guys remember me... some of you have memory recall like the fish we keep....
But about 3 years ago, I bought a Toyota Tundra DoubleCab (2006). This truck was the answer to all my problems. It was my 6th car in 4 years, simply because I didn't like the other 5 - they weren't what I needed. My truck was practical, perfect for construction, had 5 seats so it doubled as an alternate family vehicle. This thing was awesome. The best part - it was manly.

Anyway, because of job change and less income, we found that we were unable to make the payments on the truck. I got a second Job at Starbucks to help stay on top of our bills, and it worked for a while, but really wore me out.
So one morning, I woke up, and just felt totally at peace about selling my truck. Not shure how or why, but it was time to let it go.
We went to a dealership and asked to trade my truck for something smaller, lower payment, and still cool. Something like a new Camry or Honda Accord.
Well, the guy said they had a Chrysler Town and Country. A Minivan. The ultimate un-cool. The soccer-mom's dream car.
My wife drove it and fell in love with it. We made the trade. I'm now driving around a minivan.
I've officially lost my will to live. I gave up my truck and my man-card in tow as well.
Pray for me.

If it has a tv/dvd player in it you retain your mancard.

Whew...You had me worried there. I was thinking you were going suicidal on us or something

Driving a minivan is not giving up your mancard. It seems like it at first, but soon you will love the thing. You can practically haul about anything there is. I still have my truck, but I'm not ashamed to be seen in the van either. It is what it is bro. As soon as you can get back on your feet, consider getting a small pickup to go along witht he van.

Save up a grand and buy a crappy project car... then when your wife gets sick of it always being around and wants you to get rid of it...... you put your hands firm on her shoulders with tears in your eyes and you tell her how you feel about that mini van... and how all you want in your manmobile back... then she'll let you buy a camaro.

I will admit, this van has a lot of great trap doors and such. it's the perfect vehicle to smuggle illegal aliens into the states with. I can fit at least 2-3 small mexicans in the under-floor compartments.
I think i may just go get a little tacoma for now. Just got to save up a few grand since we spent all our savings on a down payment for this van.

I LOVE this idea! And I think it may actually work as my wife is really sappy. She'll see me get teared up and it's all over - I'll have her eating out of my hands.
I'd still need to do the math though. If I get a raise, I may be able to afford a second car payment, but I'd rather just own a crappy car for now instead of financing a good one.

No tv/dvd player.

250 isn't much to pay out to retain the card. Unless of course, you and your wife christined the van In a most adult/debauchary manner...Then you actually upgrade to the stud mancard.

HAHA! I actually laughed out loud. Good to know. Let me make a mix tape of Barry White and Marvin Gaye and fold down the seats with an air mattress in the back. WIN.

Could be me try losing your DL because the State of IL passed a law that if you have Epilepsy and you have a Seizure and I do and did. Even if you have gone before the medical review board to keep your DL they are still cancelling them. I have had it for 9 years after being diagnosed with it and never been an issue with my Insurance company or the state. Now I get a letter that sorry your cancelled and you have no appeal on it either.

Chances are you wouldn't have gotten much of a deal on a new Accord or Camry. They both have astronomically high resale value for some reason (I guess lots and lots of people like vanilla?
). Trucks, even a Tundra aren't worth much anymore....

I know dude. Most of our down payment actually went to cover the negative equity on the truck - you're right, they're not worth much anymore.
The Accord/Camry is a great car. Seats 4 1/2 comfortably, lots of trunk space, 30mpg. That's why we wanted it. The van gets 19mpg. My truck got 16 mpg. So basically I saved 3mpg and am driving a van.
The good part (and the primary reason we bought it) is that we saved $200 a month on the loan payments. Because it's a van, the insurance is cheaper too. It was a good call financially.

Sorry.... side track. Just if you have the diagnosis "Epilepsy" or if you've had seizures in the past without the "title" and are still on meds?
Okay.... let's resume the topic at hand.

You get to keep your mancard..only a man
would think that what he uses to get around in, marks his manhood. Everything you wrote proves you are a real man...

If those are your goals, the Accord/Camry do them pretty well. There just are so many other options, that do the same, but aren't lifeless refrigerators to drive or look at...
If you were into vans, why not just go laterally to your, and get an SUV that would salvage your mancard? I'm sure the Misses would have loved the heated/cooled seats on an Escalade. Or an Audi Q7 or something, that would have been the same price as the TC...
