It's a Feathered Starfish (aka feather duster starfish).
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ANIMAL IF SEEN IN YOUR LFS.
While they are beautiful creatures, these starfish are probably the most difficult to care for in the home aquarium and about 99% die in captivity. They should be left in the wild or under the care of someone with very advanced experience with starfish.

LOL.. I can't believe you didn't find this first.
I'm actually getting concerned about this as I've seen this video pop up a numerous times on this and other forums in the past month. It's drawing a lot of inquiries about purchasing these starfish without doing much research on them. :-(

Those things should be restricted. I bet less than 1% of the people in this hobby are equipped to keep one of those alive.

It's a gorgeous starfish but, like everyone else has stated, I would definitely not purchase this without the proper knowledge, setup and experience with extremely difficult starfish. That being said, I'll never own one! lol

I absolutely agree. They shouldn't be available for sale.

The president of our local saltwater organization has one, it showed up in the LFS and he figued he would have a better chance than anyone else to attemp to provide proper care. it has been doing well (about 1 month in captivity)
he is aware that it should not have been bought or sold but he also figured there is no turning back now, someone has to try and keep it alive. (the LFS would have surely killed it)

The starfish probably does have a better chance with him. Most LFS's get the unique things in just because they know they can make a buck if someone will buy it before it dies and not many people (most LFS's included) do the research to keep them going. Hats off for him trying. I hope that he has a better success rate than others have had. I'd be interested in getting updates on it to see what he's doing with the starfish, what kind of setup he's keeping it in and it's feeding habits. Always nice to see some info from someone experiencing it.

But, I do wish that they would leave these very difficult fish and invertebrates where they belong.
