I know its not really a disease but my water surface got oily all of a sudden and i havent changed my power heads or feeding or anything like that. the only thing that i can think of is the water temp has been around 82 lately due to the warmer weather and house. how bad is this for my fish and how can i fix it? thanks everyone

Move one of your powerheads to"break" the waters suface. This should help.
Your problem might be from not enough flow in the tank.

ok i will. by flow do you mean from the power heads or the filter? also do you think that the oil got there one time and is just still there or something is producing it?

Do you have a protein skimmer? Dissolved organics are lighter than salt water. They rise to the surface. They have to be skimmed out.

it is working, if skimmate is the stuff that it puts out as waste i just let it collect in a jug till it needs emptied. id say its made about a half liter in two and a half weeks.
