sounds like filtration overkill. Most people would use the fuge or the canister. T5 is overkill for FOWLR but i cant say anything because I have T5 on a fowlr and it is AWESOME!
I guess the filtration would really depend on how many fish your trying to put in a 30 gallon.
If i was you Id dump the canister and just go with a reef tank. U already got the light to keep softies and lps and there isnt a whole a lot fish that wil fit in a 30.

30G seems small in comparison to most FOWLR ... definitely can be done, just curious.
Prolly 2 perculas and a lawn mower blenny. Not sure about corals,as I do not know much about them.

I don't see how you can have too much filtration. They both will add water volume which is a great thing.

Ok so 2-4 clowns and maybe some corals.....what kind of HOB fuge do you suggest? Or what do you suggest I get when all I have right now is a "fluval canister filter"? skimmer? fuge?...etc

I can't really steer you in the correct direction with HOB fuges, I don't have one or know much about them.
A Fluval filter and skimmer is fine. I do recommend at least one powerhead. A Koralia 1 should be enough.
Do not put more than 2 clowns in, they'll fight until you only have one or two left anyways.

here is my 30 gallon tall reef tank. I got 2 clowns and a coral banded shrimp. i have attempted to add another small fish on several occasions over the years and it NEVER works. The clowns kill him or try to kill eachother. A 30 gallon Fowlr really doesnt hold much potential. Going reef will help "fill" the tank. I have a fluval 305 and a HOB skimmer.
Here is my 75 gallon FOWLR
On that I have 2 Fluval 405s and a HOB skimmer.

Awesome! What kind of media are you using inside of the fluvals and how often do you change/clean the media??????? I'm asking cause I have those ceramic rings and carbon and was curious if that is good enough. Either way,your tanks look great. good job bro.

in the fluvals I use a combo of the ceramic rings and live rock rubble which essentially acts the same as extra ceramic rings. Also I do run carbon every other month or so and I always have new buffer pads to fine fitler the water. Same thing I use in my reef I do for the fowlr. Also, the HOB skimmer on my 75 is a seaclone 100 it is a POS. On my reef I have a HOB red sea Prism which works great.
Remember, the less u spend the less u get. Its true in life and more than true with saltwater
