Ok how do you aquaculture a clam?

If you have a clam in your tank how do you get it to have baby clams? I see alot of people on the net selling aquacultured clams and was just wondering how this was done.

its impossible to breed and grow clams in a normal tank. do some research on the subject its very interesting.

Sometimes I think farms are set up near or in the ocean and they call it aqua-cultured. I think Tank Bred is refered to when they are cultured in the tank.

Its one of those things where its not easy to do and its better leave it up to mother nature to deal with that. It has a better chance in ocean since the chemistry there constants to what the clam needs.

i read some where online that the most lickly clam to breed in a home aquarium is an H.hippopus... but the water has to be kept very clean... almost perfect amd also you ned to have like 5 of them,

Are you referring to breeding or spawning. Even if there were multiple clams of the same sp. spawning at the same time, with the filtration that our tanks have, the possibility would be extremely small of one of them actually seddling.

It's not easy, but possible. There's many places aquaculturing clams, and most are just in a netted area in the ocean, or a facility where new ocean water is consantly pumped through. I don't remember all the specifics, but it's a very complicated task to breed clams, and definitely not something for a simple hobbyist IMO. Stress is often used to get the clams to ovulate or sperm, or the eggs are extracted with a needle directly from the clam.
