ok, so i have a 55 gallon SW aquarium and i was wondering if a protein skimmer would be a good investment. also i was wondering if i had a good enough test kit.
I have a test kit(not sure what kind) that tests:
PH
Nitrate
nitrite
& Ammonia
I also test the SG and temperature. Should i be testing for any other things??

not that I am an expert or experienced but I decided to invest in a Seaclone 100 Skimmer and it is definitely skimming some smelly gunk out of the water. From what I have read here as well as the recommendations from my LFS a protein skimmer is def worth it! As far as testing...I just keep an eye on SG, Ph, Nitrate, Nitrite and Ammonia.

A protein skimmer would be a very good investment. They remove alot of waste. If you have a reef tank or any corals you will need to test for other things.

i am just starting, and i plan to build up the ammount of corals in my tank(after i finish the battle over the red slime in my tank)...so it will eventually be a reef tank. What other things do you test for?
