So i decided this am to start setting up my system. Got it all plumbed in, sump cleaned up, went out and got a new pupm to be safe, but the sump seems to be about half full and if i turn off the pump the water from over flow will over flow sump, thats making me very nerviuos, So if i want to drain water what is the best way, cant let the pump run dry, and the sumo cant handel the overflow so where would i start so i dont have a flood in the bedroom?
Thanks
sorry for seeming stupid

Show pictures of your set-up. There are a few different ways you can make it so that water does not drain back down to your sump when you turn the pump off. You can use a check valve or drill holes into the return pipe if it is set up that way.

This post is a little confusing. Pictures would definitely help. If it is a problem with backflow from the return, then a check valve or hole at the water level will help. I realize this has already been mentioned.
You're not trying to run the sump and the tank at maximum volume (ie full) are you?

Start with your tank water level just under your overflows ( I am assuming your overflows are internal ) position your returns into your tank just at the water level . Do this if you do not have a siphon brake or check valve in the system Fill your sump with water about 1 inch above your return pump ( your return pump should be sitting on the bottom of your sump) start the pump have water ready If you draw water below the inlet of your return pump . Now shut your pump off you should not overflow your sump. Check the level in your sump and you can add water to your system and repeat the procedure until the water is your system when you stop your pump back-flows in to your sump at a level you are comfortable with. Place a mark on your sump at this water level when the system is running and that is the level you want to maintain in water changes and make up water
