Hey,
The site melevsreef.com gives lots of info. From what a sump does to how to build one. I used this link to build mine.
Mine is very basic. Overflow into the first chamber, flows through bubble trap baffles to the refugium (caulerpa,LR,LS), then through second set of bubble trap baffles to return section where the pump sends it up through the flex tube to a pvc tee connector and back to the tank. I have more pics if you need them and I can get more specific with my building plans (equipment list) too. All baffles on mine are 12".
My lfs store wanted around $300.00 to build this for me. I did it for around $150.00, used a bigger tank and used better equipment than he was offering. Much easier than I thought. done in two days.
Good luck,
Tom

heres mine. Proclear Aquatics... pretty simple wet-dry no fuge and can all be bought off this site pretty cheap. I would rate the skimmer about a 5 ona scale of 1-10.

LOL! I'm asked that quite a bit from this picture. Yeah, the pump's turned off and I have siphon breaks just below the water line in my return pvc lines. Luckily this is as high as it goes. When it's running, it's just above the baffles and there's a very small waterfall going into the return area. Not enough to make bubbles, just enough to get the refugium part moving some.
I appreciate the question, though and it's definitely not out of the realm of possibilities that I could've screwed it up. I've made plenty of mistakes.
Best regards,
Tom
