I posted it in number 11 but I did not write the number down it was 35 the specific gravity is there as well. I use a hydrometer or howevver you spell it. I have lowered my salinity and specific gravity when I added premixed saltwater 4 gallons I let sit in a covered 5 gallon bucket for four days
My specific gravity 1.024 and my salinity is now 33
I did wanna ask when I premix my sw I live in the country and have to use tap water. is it ok to take the water uncovered let it sit in the bucket on my sun porch and will that help distill the water ?I dunno just I figure that would help it lol..
Also how long should or can I premix my sw for covered ? Is a week too much ???
Salinity is in the safe range with both measurements.
Letting your tap water sit uncovered will allow chlorine to evaporate out, but its not going to help remove any of the other things that are found in tapwater that are harmful to your saltwater aquarium (like silica) - if you let it sit too long it will have the opposite effect and concentrate these substances as evaporation occurs. In my opinion and experience, using RO water is one of the most important steps in keeping a good clean SW tank. If you continue to use tap water you are constantly going to experiencing/battling algae blooms. I highly recommend that your find a good RO/DI system and purchase it, it hauling RO water is not an option (I also live in the country and I just have 5 5 gallon jugs that I fill when I'm in town, then I have them on hand).
The recommened premix time is 24 hours before using, but mixing it for longer times IMO isn't going to hurt anything (be sure and test the water in the buckets before doing the water change to make they match the parameters of your aquarium regardless of how long you mix for).
