That is exactly what I am talking about. Was the 29 gallon already setup and running? If so then it is fine. If the tank was not already set up then you should cycle it before you put your fish in there. I just read back and you said that you just set the tank up. It will have to cycle. You can add a few cups of your sand to give the tank some biological bacteria. Add a small raw shrmp to the tank and wait for the ammonia to spike to 1ppm. Pull the shrimp out and let it finish the cycle.
