Old lazy reef

How do you prevent your reef from becoming old and lazy. Im not talking about maturing but aging. I know one of the ways are using ro/di water. What are some others?

umm wat does old and lazy mean? im not sure how to answer that, but maybe the answer is frequent water changes

Ya know like when the water has a bunch of minerals in it and stuff?

ye, like just make sure u do water changes to get new water in ur system
