old live rock

i found some nice large pieces of old rock on the beach. am i able to do anything to bring the life back to it? can I add it to my tank with my live rock and hope coral algie and life speads over it? what, if anything can i do?

I would be weary of adding rock from the beach, who knows what that rock has soaked up after laying on the shoreline.

You can make any rock "live rock" by seeding it. Many people do the same thing with base rock, they buy large amounts of base rock for low prices then buy a few pieces of quality LR and in a few months or years it will be hard to tell the difference between the two.

thanks for the info. I have lr in my holding tank i just wanted to know if it was ok to place it in with it.
