Old rock and sand new tank

So question i just got a 28 bowfront and added some live rock and sand. The rock and sand had been in an established tank for 5 years. After about a day i already have algae growing like mad in there all over the rock and what look like some red lil feather dusters have started peerin out. My question is should i still cycle the tank even though the rock and sand are both established? If i did would it hurt the rock and sand? Or could i go ahead and add some inverts:help:

You could probably chance it and just add things very very slowly to your system. Personally I would still toss in a cocktail shrimp and let that rot a bit. Better safe than sorry. It shouldn't hurt anything in your tank except a smallllll chance of hurting your little featherduster things. just my .02
PS please dont be impatient if you havent gotten a reply in 30min.

So i tested my water today and i have 0.25 ppg ammonia 0.2 nitrite and 0 nitrate. Do you think the shrimp didn't work or did the old rock just cycle fast.

IMO the shrimp is working. AFter a cycle, you shouldn't have any sort of ammonia reading. So basically you're beginning your cycle.

If your ammonia is starting to go down (I don't know if it's high or low since I don't know what it was the day before). But if ammonia is going down, trite's should be starting to go up soon. Not 1000% sure on that though.

will do im gonna try to get pics of these really cool feather dusters and of all the nudibranch i got. I have a california scientific collections permit so i can get lots of neat stuff =P. even found out a secret way to rid tanks of aiptasia!
