How awful for this young man and his family. They have shown this crash about 15 times in the last 5 minutes too.

whats terrible is there was about a dozen other crashes before the Georgian went for his trial. They shouldn't use that course it seems to be more of a testing ground.

On another note are you watching this coverage right now by Brokaw? Cause its sad how much Americans disrespect are friendly neighbors to the north. Katsafados we love you

Seems an easy fix. Plexiglass or fine netting would have at least prevented the crashing into the pole. I also agree that they shouldnt be showing the footage.

totally agree with Gill, netting/wall/wrapping the poles also. This poor kid was probably dead before they could even reach him. Horrible internal trauma. Enough with the footage of it. Everyone also seems to be talking how extremly fast this track is.....maybe we now know too fast.

Yeah if they had plexiglass it wouldn't have happened. It is the worlds fastest course but th Georgian was actually traveling relatively slow (88 mph) compared to the speeds of his competitors. Its that final turn where people keep crashing, That was an awesome opening though, I'm glad they had the moment of silence.

He died doing what he loved. There is a decent sized risk to that sport. News people have no heart or backbone. If its a story they cover it.

When you slide down a sheet of ice reaching speeds up to 90 with no breaks and nothing between your butt and the ground than a glorified cake pan I am surprised more people aren't killed doing it. Definitely one of the most dangerous sports out there.

wow, I haven't seen that clip yet. Horrible. I have done the luge up in Lake Placid, of course not going that fast. I have never seen anything like that in my life.

Well someone is gonna be in BIG trouble thats for sure because people were already talking about the track being way too fast and dangerous before this happend.
They are stating that they may lower the men to start at the womens starting spot to help lower speeds, but how come this wasnt tested? Wouldnt it have been common sense to in case the tube as well? They encase tubes at waterparks to prevent such accidents why not in this sport? The reason he died is cause he flew off the track and into and onto metal beams at 90mph wearing nothing but a speedo, heck people die in cars crashing into the same thing and die being much more protected.....crazy.

Place a plexiglass wall where the turns straighten out you have a guy with some rash and some broken bones nothing more
