Hippo tang, aka Regal tang, aka Palette surgeonfish, are not typically herbivores in nature. They are planktivores (just like say a Crosshatch trigger, or a Lamarck Angelfish) that eat food stuffs (zooplankton, etc) out of the water column. As they are still tangs, so algae does makes up a large percentage of their diet.
Look at their scientific name, Paracanthurus hepatus. They are the only fish classified under the Paracanthurus genus, quite unique.
Wow I must say this tang all of sudden is goin thru something.. Due to his large size. when he says no he does not want something somewhere he knocks it down by pushing it, like a nice piece of rock full of polyps I say thats where its perfect and he says no and I literally c him push it .he is begining 2 b a bully.. had him 4 4years and I think he is going thru teenage years.

Mine is 4 years old and is still a good boy...Since he is now the largest fish in the tank he is a bully. The largest fish is always a bully.
