OMG what is my crab doing

one day i was looking at my herment crab his shell was BIG but it looked like it was trying to change shells with a smaller one what was he doing?

If you were pushing a tractor-trailer, and someone left a Mini, wouldn't you switch?
Don't worry, I have a hermit that switches back and forth between two shells (larger and smaller) almost weekly. I think it has trouble committing.

He is about to molt. They do that becuase when they dig undergroud to let they new skeleton harden. It is easier to dig into the ground in a small shell.

well i never knew a crab to do that see its shell is 4 inches and the one he tryed to get into was 2 inches
