? on feather dusters

I saw a really nice feather duster, tube worm thing, at the LFS. The crown is about 3-4" big and it's like double. IT's really pretty. Anyway, can I put it in my rock work, or does it have to go in the sand?

you can put it in your rock work just be carefull not to squish the tube. remember if you put it in your rock work it will "cement" itself in place, often to more than one rock which can be a real danger when re-aranging or moving anything, because if the rocks its cemented to shift you can tear the tube or squish the worm. so if/werever you put it in your rock work consider that area "untouchable" and a permanent placement. here is mine he is cemented to the rock over him (under the sand) even though when I put him in he was about an inch from it.
If you get it take your time drip acclimating it.

thanks for the info!! will do! I have a hard time moving my rocks around with my new flame scallop. It always seems to cling to the rock I want to move. It nocked over a polyp rock and I went to move it ( polyp rock) and in one day, a bunch of polyps decided to move to the other rock. So now they have "Glued" the 2 rocks together.

And just because its n a sand bed does ot preclude it not attaching itself to the glass bottom either. I have had them go thorugh 3 to 4 inches of sand and becopmre attached to the tank bottom., I prefer to keep em on or in the rock work myself, as it leaves less of a chance for some burrowing type critters etc to irritate them. They are not particular just give em so flow and some particulate matter for food and they do fine. I have one with a crown around 4 or 5 inches for over 4 years now and folks make a bigger fuss over it than some of the other corals in there.

well said. good thing to mention about it cementing to the glass.
People love mine too (usually all my girlfriends female friends love it untill they find out its a worm) now I just dont tell them its a worm. mines about 4" accross and the tube is about 9" long. its definatly one of the most remarked on things in my tank by people who see the tank for the first time.

the onein the store looks like yours. Not as big, but it's the double crown thing. I love it!! I've had my eye on it for a while, but was waiting to get my calcium levels back up. I did that, so I think I will go get it today. I hope it's still there. I'll post a picture if I get it.

Mine cemented itself to a flat shell at the LFS so I just buried the shell and most of the tube in the sand under a rock. (see pic) I also suggest feeding them mashed up frozen foods, I mush up mysis with a spoon and squirt the ''juice" into the feathers...got the idea from a article in a AFM mag.

He's actually moved himself alittle since pic 1, (see pic 2)

And not to sound like a broken record, but yu need to feed or apply the food from the tube side of the crwon, as thats the side of ther crown that mainly gathers particulate food. If you look at a FD thats been there and fed, yu wil see it expell waste out the open end....All I do is allow particulate matter from frozen foods to filter around it with a power head providing flow. Its more natural way of them feeding, and in no time its easy to see them pull the crown inside the tube during feeding, and then extend it again and then pull it in as its filtering out particulate matter in a more natural way.
