I was considering getting a couple shaving brush plants. Their non expensive and I've read where they are very helpful for the tank. But I've also read something about how they GROW in the substrate in SHALLOW water.
I'm confused about the "Shallow" water.

i purchased these from swf.com and my tnags ate them in about 3 weeks even though it says they are able to withstand being picked on by tangs.

i think that just means that they need a nice amount of light to flourish, i had mine in a 90 under 260 watts pc and they were doing fine until the tangs ate them.

I havent met anyone that has been able to keep them for a long time. They tend to die off slowly over a few months. I do believe they need really good lighting.
I would go for another form of macro algae that grows better under less lighting.
Sea lettuce is interesting. Caulerpa is good but can be a nusance since it grows so fast.
Turtle grass is neat but looks more like a fresh water plant. There are lots of options if you check out the web.
