when there is ich on a fish, the spots drop off onto the tank floor and turn into cyst like things. These in turn rerlease free floating spore which attach to the fish. If I remeber correctly, 99% percent of ich cases come on because of some type of stress to the fish, usually water params. If a fish isn't stressed and healthy he should very rarely develop ich. I dont think you could treat the whole tank(you could it just wouldn't be wise). I would just make sure there is no undue stress on the fish and you should be fine.Any corals?

Did you treat the fish who showed signs of ich? Or did the signs just go away all by themselves--was your tank "fish-less" for about three weeks to prevent the cycle of ich from continuing? These are the only sure ways to know that your fish and tank are ich-free. Good for you for q-ing your new fish! But you want to be sure you are putting the new fish into a safe environment, as much as you can. Good Luck!
