One clown fish

My 55 gallon tank has finished cycling and I have bought 1 clown fish for it. Do they prefer company, should I get several more? Eventually I plan to get a Coral Beauty, a Humu Humu and one other unique fish. Would 3 clowns total be to many?

If you get three clowns two of them will gang up on the third and kill it. They need to be kept singly or in pairs. If you do get another one make sure it is smaller than the one you already have.

OK. like I said i just put him in today. There were a couple dozen or more in the tank at the LFS that he came from and they all looked identical in size. If i put another one in tomorrow will the size matter much? Thank you.

clowns are better in pairs and more than two can cause problems from what i hear and im not sure that these fish can be kept with a huma so just check up with other responses you get.

I'm not sure if the clowns will be okay with a huma either, hopefully someone else can answer that for you.

Maybe I missed it, but what species are we talking about here? It truthfully all depends. A large tomato (for you hillbillies out there, tomata), or a large maroon would work well. We all wish you luck! Keep us updated.

Come'on Emperor11, the break down is like this, when people say "clowns", 60% mean ocellaris, 20% mean perculas, 10% mean Premnas Biaculeatus, 5% mean clarkii, and 5% mean everything else

I don't intend to be mean, just playing. You probably won't want to put a triger in your tank if you have clowns.

Percula Clownfish, sorry, i didn't think about that. That's good to know about the trigger, too bad. Any recommendations, and thanks.

You may have a decision to make, either peacful tank, or semi-aggresive, no judgement just your choice to make.

you can add two more clowns, thay will pair up,if any thing happens to either one the spare will move up the latter,I do that with all my clowns.I have cinnamon, red saddleback, clarks, ocellaris, maroon all not in same tank - if you can get tank breed I've read where you can mix them with no problem stay away from any trigger fish - may be a small angel as time goes by

Me think Humu Humu eat Nemo Nemo.
Also I don't think flames need an aged tank. But it may be a good idea. I have read that about them. But me, I am a rebel. My flame was the first fish in the tank, along with two ocellaris clowns ( it was a 75 gal, until I set off some firecrackers in it, now it is 115gal.). My flame is doing great.

Definitely no Humu Humu; and I think a 55g is too small for Triggers anyway. They grow quite large and all are serious swimmers. Also, the smaller the tank the more territorial - and nasty - they'll get. They also seriously cut down on the other kinds of fish you can have.
I must disagree about adding 3 clowns and that the third will move up the chain of command if anything happens to the others. The general consensus is that the two paired up clowns will kill the extra. You gotta have 2 or a whole bunch.
Flame Angel would be a good choice, though they tend to be on the more aggressive side for Dwarf Angels. Also consider a Coral Beauty.

Ocellaris will not necessarily kill the third, although it is a possibility. The third will probably take a beating though.
