Typically the tang's coloration changes when the light is first turned on in the aquarium and this is very normal. (Just like a blue damsel turns black to blue) If you don't already, be sure to supply him with lots of greenstuff, romaine lettuce, algae, etc. This will give him the best chances to be healthy and avoid eye problems and lateral line disease which is very common in tangs who do not get the proper nutrition!
