One More Time Seaclone Users

I just finally set-up my Seaclone. It was old my old tank, and hasn't been running for about a month and a half. Does it need to re-break in? I am not seeing any bubbles. Also when they are in the sump does the pump still need to be only 2-3" deep? If so I am not sure how I can do this. Any suggestions.

I would assume that it would need a break in period. You should however have bubbles going into the central tube. Have you checked the airline, and venture, going into the powerhead for obstructions? Not sure about it needing to be 2-3" from the surface. I think this has more to do with making sure that it is sucking water, and not air through the intake of the powerhead. As long as it doesn't create a whirlpool on the surface, and start sucking air, other than through the venturi, it should be fine.

On the Seaclone "hangon" installation they are talking more of a "Minimum" 2"-3" to keep the sponge prefilter submurged to prevent sucking air...
On "insump" install 8"-10" should be fine, you probably wouldn't want to go deeper...Overflow is at 12"...You could put it on a brick or rock to raise it if your sump is much deeper...
As far as "Breakin" time I would assume you washed it before reusing? So your probably back to square one...
Thats mostly to coat the inside of the unit with organics which maintain surface tension on the bubbles which allow them to rise up in the tube and out the overflow...
The "instruction" book says 3 days to a week...Mine started bubbling out the top after 6 hrs...but I put it on an established tank that hadn't been skimmed before.

I run my seaclone in a sump and have found that you want the PH 2" - 3" deep. when I originally put mine in the sump I had it sititing in about 4.5" of water and it really reduced the flow of air and the skimmer was very ineffective. I put the skimmer on a plastic shelf which raised it up 2" and now it runs fine.
