All the great advice from Reno and Earlybird is getting me all misty eyed........
Some addittions- Always good to do your own testing. First to understand what each of the elements your testing for represents on its respective level of threat when off balance. Second- to be familiar with what the tank looks like the instant something is off. Testing the next day or even a few hours later will give a completley different reading than when the spike or issue was happening. If letting someone else do the tests since you often get mixed results in your testing vrs LFS testing. Someone is goofing.
Could be the tests, could be YOU, could be THEM
Example-Calcium off 10-15% from target spec is fine.........Amonia off 10-15% will wipe out your tank.......
Buffers are handy when properly understood and do perform a given function, but as stated in the great advise from those before me, The ability to test with reliable and repeatable tests to determine the cause of the inbalance BEFORE trying to fix it with dosing buffers is key.
Understanding the why is often more important in determining the how when looking at the problem from a long term position.
You will and SHOULD know your tanks water quaility better than anyone else.
Flow- I wont get into it but some solid advice given above about trying to increase your tanks bio-ablilities via more water flow.
I could go on and on, but you have some very capable folks already involved so good luck.
