don't have coral. No good algae and read these don't eat algae but who knows. I got shrimp thanks to someone who came to my rescue...and fed it to him, it was cool. He ate, he burped, he stretched, and now's he's takin a nap. I offered him the cookie dough, but he wasn't in the mood for desert, this time anyway.
So.......I ate it.

Contrary to Molamola's opinion, they like meaty stuff. So she was off base with the cookie dough but a nice prime rib or pork tenderloin in a merlot sauce would be better. But to be even more difficult they like the pricey seafood, lobster, shrimp, squid, silversides, krill...or even shrimp pellets. An algae wafer now and then as a side salad may not be passed up either. :)

I'm a veggie person, don't eat nothin that ever had a face....so I kinda get creeped out feeding 'him' meat, I will have to have a talk with him. I was thinking a good sub sandwich, onion, pepper, mushrooms, olives.....heck that could be a pizza too. Maybe tomorrow we'll try pizza. AND chocolate....mmmmm, better than ---, but then...spose he/she don't care ha?

My CC star leans and arm back and starts to move his little suction cups when he smells flake food in the water for the clowns. He doesn't eat the flake, but knows its dinner time.
I feed him either cockle (sp?) or krill. If he is really hungry, he has eaten a piece of each in one feeding.
Mine has never shown an interest in algae or the seaweed greens I put in as a treat to my feeders.
Good luck, and stop listening to that LFS guy! :D

He is doing good. 'wondered' around his side of the tank today, He doesn't stray to far from one area....he is edging back toward the top tonight so I am thinking he might be hungry again tomorrow, just hope I can get one of the kids to feed him, how many kids get to tell their friends they fed a star fish....especially here in WI? I just feel good we got him to eat the first time.........thanks to info here. I feel we are finally on the right track.
Thanks everyone!

cc stars hangover the sides at the top because that's how they are fed at the farms in which the stores buy from. they put the food at the top of the tanks on clips. also they are mostly a carnivore but will eat algae to some degree. and they get pretty big. what u feed them sounds good. if you want to spend the money on frozen shrimp that's up to you, but make sure it's thawed

Well, we do live in the 'Island City', but the lakes don't have to many shrimp, and they are all frozen over anyway. Not to many shrimp boats around here either, so frozen...my only choice. I got a big bag for less than a can of what my other fish eat cost, so I don't see a problem here. SO WHAT IS the problem here?

Might you have some suggestions?
(He refuses pellets and algae pads btw)

i have a chocolate chip star fish and i feed him krill, the same type i feed my small snowflake eel... But i just put my hand in with a pice of krill right up to his suckers and ones he has a hold of it, he'll pull it in twards his stomach, turn it inside out, and eat it. You can fed him when hes right up afainst the glass to so you can see his stomach go inside out and the food digesting. Its pretty cool

i just wanted to let him know that his star fish isn't doing anything wrong by staying at the top and that the diet he is feeding him is fine as well
