I support the "Hunters for Hunger" program. Our limit here in Okla. is 7 for the year. I donate 6 for the cause and then I have a Doe processed (ground up with beef tallon) and I make jerky and chili with that.

My black powder buck last year was taken near Kansas and it was 187 lbs. dressed, and 10 points as well. This one I was told would be 150's and the one last year I was told was 160 class.

The owner of the company I work for killed a 10 point that scored 138-1/4 in south Texas on Saturday.
I'm not a rack hunter so I do not score them.

Since we only get one buck, I always hunt for the rack. There are some years I don't even kill a buck. If it is not big enough, I let it go so it can grow up a little more.

Thanks for the link, I saved it. I will score the latest and let you know. I passed up 7 bucks on Sat. before I saw this one that I harvested. I always try to better myself and harvest a deer that I have not taken before. Like no spikes, or small 6's etc. I should have mounted the heads of the last 3 but I'm not really one to do that. I could use the $300 on another lease land or on the sw tank.
I also like to take animals with different weapons each time. I was on the Marine Corps shooting team in Hawaii so I can shoot long distance. It gets boring after awhile. I need a challenge, like with a .303 British made in 1954 or with a pistol etc. Makes for better memories.

They ask for a $10 tax deductable contribution to help cover the costs. I always pay atleast that. Sometimes I feel sorry for them and pay $30 because it such a big deer. :hilarious We (state of Okla.) donated over 2,000 lbs. of deer meat for the Hunters for Hunger program last year.

You guys are so awesome to donate your game. Here in Montana you can only get 1 deer, 1 elk on the West side of the Rockys, over east of the mt. you can buy special doe tags, but normally only one doe. First week of season you can shoot either --- then after that just buck and bulls. My hunters normally just hunt for the heads, we use the meat, but if they don't get one that is just fine also. My husband has quite the trophy room, he does taxidermy so that helps. Otherwise we wouldn't have the mounts that we do.
UMMMMM hunting hogs in HAWAII, that would be a dream come true for me, hunt the willey boar and then go snorkle or dive the reefs and watch the fishey...I would LOVE that
. I have a friend that bought a coffee farm over there, maybe they will need me one day to clear out their hog problems.

The buck/doe ratio is pretty low where we hunt so we try to thin does when we can. In order to make it more interesting I try to set myself up for 300 yd shots. So far so good. What kind of scopes are the Marine snipers using these days?

Just saw this thread again. Tx, I hunt near the Kansas border and pay hansomly for the leases. They are pretty high but when you can see 15-20 bucks and groups of 15-30 Does at a time it is worth it. No they are not always on our land as they travel the coridor to and from the alfalfa and wheat fields. Last time I went, I passed up 8 bucks before I shot mine. I settled for that one because it was getting late.
KMC, the snipers are using Inertals on the m40's.
This year I will be taking my buck (hopefully) with my T/C Contender Encore .308 pistol. Gun season starts tomorrow and goes to the 2nd of Dec.

I killed an average sized (rack) 9 point this morning. I wouldn't have shot it but my wife wanted me to because she thought it was "pretty" and wanted it to be the first deer we killed together. I still get 1 more buck but if it isn't a trophy, I'm not going to kill it. Tina will be killing my 2 does.
We sighted in my Browning Medallion 25-06 BOSS Thursday and after I got sighted (6 shots with an 1/8" grouping, man I love the BOSS) I let Tina shoot it a couple of times from 100 yards out. She has never shot a rifle in her life and drilled 2 shots about a 1/2" away from the bullseye. Man I love that woman.

Points are defined as antlers coming up large enough to hang a ring on. Thats what I have heard. Scoring a buck is done by measurements taken of length and circumferance, width etc. The large buck I posted "scored" 139 3/8".
