While I was at the LFS picking up a book (and YES, ONLY a book as my tank is 'resting' as I call it after my ich incident) when I asked the guy next to me what he had in his 5 gal bucket. He stepped aside showing me his two AMAZING brittle stars. He said he was bringing them back because they ate his snails (do they do that???)
Anyway, then he asked if I wanted them :0 He would have GIVEN them to me as he was GIVING them back to the store anyway. Well because of your love of this species and the time you spent helping me I knew these beautiful little guys were not suitable for my tank.
Even though they were gorgeous and I love all things star it was easy to not take them as I knew enough (now) that they would have found certain death.
See?! Someone is listening :) Thanks!!!

Man, I would have taken them
What color were they? Unless he's been hanging around this board, LOL, I bet they weren't fed...or his snails were dying for other reasons. But that is JMO.
Anyway good move to not do the impulse thing. It is a good habit to not get in to :) Thanks very much for listening!!! It is always good to hear that

What am I missing? I thought brittle stars were reef safe. I had a green one in my old 125 reef and loved it. He was very intertaining, would take food straight from my hand! As far as I could tell he never caused a problem.

they are unsuitable for my tank because it's just not established enough. And I don't quite have enough live rock. After than I stopped finding reasons LOL

The green brittlestar is, FWIW, a known predator and I wouldn't recommend it without caution. The black brittlestar has been reported to be predatory but mine won't even respond to spot feeding. Not to mention I am making a guess to its identity. But the primary reason is the age of the tank...not even amount of LR, just that it is still a bit unstable
