what kind of lights do u have on ur tank... u should get an anenome for it... it is the coolest thing to watch if the tomato will go for it...

in talking with one of the guys at the LFS, he suggested the tomato clown over the red fire goby for a few reasons: size of my tank and size of fish, want to get the bioload going, and the fact that I would most likely see the tomato actually swimming instead of hiding.
Did I do much research on the Tomato Clown, no, but...I thought back to this thread and remembered a couple people recommending clowns ...so I figured it would be ok.
Now the reactions I've gotten have given me a real buzz kill with my first addition!
I suppose the worst case scenario, I return the Tomato clown for store credit.

my ideas going forward...
I still would like to get 1or2 red fire gobies if possible and eventually (after 6 months or so) get a butterfly (threadfin). [Perhaps the firefish would freak out in a tank with the tomato and try to fly. I dunno. ]
possibly a hawkfish too, but I may get some peppermint shrimp for my aptasias, so, that may not work out.
also looking into a wrasse.
I don't plan on getting more than 6 fish anyways. I just want them all to get along. ya know...
in looking at the compatability chart on another site, it looks as if I can mix these

haha, i have had good luck with my tomato clown. But it's all about how u add fish, what u feed them and how many fish you add. personally, i think u will be fine.

what would be the ideal way to "add another fish" hereafter?
I see those Clear quarantine boxes that the LFS store hangs in the tank that the newcomer will go into. A couple weeks of that and wouldn't the other fish know that there's no threat? is this a good way?

My first fish was a pair of Tomato clowns, one has since "passed on". There is plenty of room in my 90G tank, even with the rock work, I have since added a Lawnmower blennie, and a Royal Gramma....The Royal has been the most aggressive fish and I have not had ANY problem with my Tomato. He actually has the most personality out of all of them, and stays in front of the rockwork where he can swim around freely. I dont have an Anemone for him nor do I plan on getting one as they require nearly perfect conditions ALL the time. Adding an Anemone makes the tank more work rather than a hobby..IMO.

Long Tentacle Plate Coral, Some clowns take to it. I just ordered one today, so I'll see soon if my tomato likes it or not.
But he has been fine for 8 months without...

the QT tank u described is an excellent way... however it doesn't do what a QT tank does. If you have a real QT tank setup set the new fish through that process. than when u put it into the display tank put it in a box and keep it there for about a week but feed it well and give it something to hide in. During this week, move ur things around every day just to confuse the tomato and release the new fish. Don't feed either fish the same day (don't know if this is a fact but it works for me) and when u feed it give two small portions on each side of the tank. one where the clown is but u don't normally feed and the other where the new addition is. I don't know if this is any accurate process but it's how i do it. :D

UPDATE: after the Tomato Clown, I added a Red Firefish - the clown staked his claim on the far left side of the tank, so I dropped the firefish in the right side. so, now he's got the right side to himself. I don't even think he's even ventured past the middle of the tank. But, they know of each other and are cool with each other....getting along fine...even when I feed them. I think that the clown realizes that the firefish is no threat to his meal.
