Opinion On Backgrounds

how do you folks feel about the backgrounds for tanks.
Ya know those plastic films, with blue or coral pictures.
for or against and why ?

I like to paint the back black.
I had a plastic background on my first sw tank and I would get salt creeps down inbetween the plastic and the tank... looked awful. If you do use a back ground I would completely seal off the top...

I paint my background as well, but not black. I do a teal/aqua color. It really brings out the color of the rock and inhabitants. HTH

I vote for painting.
If you do paint, use a latex-based paint. That way you could always scrape it off if you wanted to change it. Just make sure the surface is really clean first so it sticks good. Also, put a piece of masking tape along the frame on the top and bottom or the paint could creep up under it.
I originally did mine light blue/aqua but I just recently scraped it all off and redid it in dark blue. I think it gives a better contrast to the bright fish/corals.
