Opiura, good news on my basket starfish

Got an e mail today from Dawn who is in charge of the reef exhibits at the Shedd Aquarium. And good news, she finally did what I've been telling her, that the lights HAVE to be off for the starfish to come out and open her arms/legs. So the past two days she put a timer on the lights of the exhibit, and 15 minutes after the lights go out, the starfish comes out and she's been feeding it mysis shrimp (which I suggested in the beginning along with guppies) with a turkey baster. She said ithe starfish was as big as a house tonight, ate so much. Obviously very hungry. Really brightened up my day.
She also said that she's going to mention this to the "Guest Services" department and they may do a special "Nocturnal" presentation for visitors in front of the tank and give the time the lights will be turned off and the starfish will come out. That would be so cool.

Oh many there are SOOOOO many things they could do with a whole nocturanl section. Many zoos will do this with animals like Kiwi birds so that visitors can see them...basically just a opposite light cycle. But there are all sorts of info boards that can go up about who is active on the reef at night, twilight changeovers, etc.
Anyway, VERY HAPPY to hear that they have taken your word for it! Even cooler to know that you may have had a direct hand in a new type of display :D
And great to see his appetite return with a bit of extra care, just like he got with you :)
