I am getting a orange ricordea Friday and was wondering if anyone can give me any tips on it. What does it eat, lighting , water flow?

it eats moderate-low lighting. you dont need to feed it anything. likes moderate flow. a normal mushroom pretty much.

I have always wondered why these are sold as single polyps and why are they so much expensive?
also, I've heard they propagate. How fast does this happen and how does it work? If I just buy a few of these, will they eventually start appearing all over my rocks or what?

They are just in high demand, especially pinks, reds, oranges, and various other unusual colors. I bought a rock of about 10-12 that had various shades of browns, greens, and reds in them about 8 months ago and I think it has spread to about 17 or so now. I've got many different rics and that is the only one I've had much luck getting to spread, but I've had it the longest too.

I've never tried fragging a ric. I had read a little about it and it didn't sound like people were having much luck with it. There was talk of needing to cut the mouth down the middle or else it probably wouldn't work. Is that true? It sounds like you are just cutting a random piece off, like a mushroom (which these basically are).
