Does anyone has any experience with an Orange spotted filefish? I saw 4 of them at a LFS and they are only $18. They are very cute but I never saw one before. Are they reef safe?

they shoud be left in the ocean, they only eat some corals and it would cost you tons of m oney top feed them in corals.. theya lso dont live very long no matter if they start eating othger food or not.. search your title and you will find lots of info on here about them.. its also under the thread titles "fish to avoid"

i agree with psusocr1
i have read on them that they SHOULD be left in the ocean they will not make it in your tank almost 99 percent of the time and anr very very gard to maintain. i think that it is a mistake taking tht little fish outta the coean because he has a deathwosh cut out for him...

see if you can have him sent to a aquarium like a zoo or something
double check me here but im pretty sure

The fish store is owned by Chinese....It was almost impossible for me to communicate with them. I am sure they don't care about the fish and they will try to sell it to anyone.

Well, we obtained one of these fish about 5 months ago. Didn't know anything about them. This is our first saltwater tank(75g), and we are mostly passive fish, lots of crabs/shrimp, live rock, and a couple corals. The fish store sold him to us with little information about him/her, but we took him home anyhow. He is still alive to this day and seems very healthy. We feed a large variety of foods (only feed once a day) of krill, lobster, brine, bloodworms, veggie flakes, and algae sheets. Our mushroom coral has been suffering since, but is still alive. Only just started researching these guys and realizing how hard they are to keep. I don't know, maybe we got lucky, but i must say they are cool looking fish and remains as one of my favorites in the tank. They can survive well in a house tank.

theyw ill survive for awhile,, but they will just up and die one day because the nutrients and vitamins etc. they need are only contained in the corals they feed on, thus killing them from eating anythign else since they dont get proper nutrition.. but good luck with him!
